The platform
A different approach to commercial access control
UniFi Access pairs modern door hardware with the broader UniFi ecosystem — cameras, network, switching, and identity administered from the same console. For a commercial building that usually means fewer disconnected systems, one place to review a door event, and one contractor accountable for the result. Feature availability and packaging are controlled by Ubiquiti and can change over time; we verify what is current at design time.
Mobile Access
Doors can be unlocked with supported mobile credentials issued through UniFi Identity, so staff carry a phone instead of a badge. We set up the credential workflow, groups, and schedules during commissioning.
Apple Wallet & Google Wallet
Selected current UniFi Access readers support Touch Pass, which allows credentials to be presented from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Compatibility is confirmed per reader model during design — we verify it before it goes in a proposal.
Cards & Key Fobs
Traditional cards and fobs remain fully supported for staff, contractors, and visitors who should not be issued a mobile credential. Most buildings we install end up running a mix.
Fingerprint & Multi-Factor Entry
Ubiquiti currently offers fingerprint-capable readers such as the G3 Reader Fingerprint for entrances that warrant a second factor — IT rooms, cash rooms, pharmacy and controlled-inventory areas.
Video + Access Control
Because UniFi Access and UniFi Protect live in the same ecosystem, a door event can be reviewed against camera video instead of a bare log entry. This is the single most requested integration we install.
Remote Management
Authorized administrators can manage users, credentials, schedules, and door state remotely once the system is configured and secured. We set up admin roles rather than handing over one shared login.
Multi-Site Management
Multiple buildings and multiple locations can be administered together, which is why property managers and multi-branch operators keep asking us for it.
No Traditional Per-Door Software Licensing
UniFi Access currently does not require the traditional recurring software licensing commonly associated with many commercial access-control platforms. Licensing and packaging are controlled by Ubiquiti and can change.

A reader does not unlock a door on its own. The access hub is the piece that sits between the reader, the locking hardware, the door contacts, and the network — it makes the access decision and drives the lock. Ubiquiti currently offers hub solutions spanning individual doors, larger multi-door installations, vehicle gates, and elevators, which is why the same platform can cover an entire property.

More than just installing a reader
Most access-control projects fail at the door, not at the software. The strike does not fit the frame, the maglock has no compliant egress path, there is no cable to the opening, the hub has no power, or nobody tested what happens when the network drops. Door hardware
Electric locks, maglocks & door hardware
Every opening gets assessed before anything is specified. The right locking solution depends on the door itself — swing, frame, existing hardware, glass vs. hollow metal — and on the building's egress and fire/life-safety requirements. Not every configuration is acceptable at every door, and we will tell you when a door needs a different approach than the one you had in mind.

Visitor entry
UniFi Intercom installation
For lobbies, unstaffed entrances, tenant suites, and gates, we install UniFi Intercom — and, where it suits the entrance better, a pro reader with intercom capability. The install covers the terminal itself, the Intercom Viewer for whoever answers calls, the door-release path back to the access hub and locking hardware, and the network and PoE that keep it up.

An access log tells you a credential was presented. Video tells you who presented it. Because UniFi Access and UniFi Protect are part of the same ecosystem, a door event and the camera covering that door can be reviewed together — which is what actually resolves disputes, theft, propped doors, and after-hours entries.

UniFi gate access
Where a controlled vehicle gate is the appropriate solution, we build the access side of it: Gate Hub, intercom for visitors and deliveries, readers or credential-based vehicle entry, license-plate-driven workflows where supported by the products deployed, the interface to your gate operator, plus the network and cameras that make the entrance reviewable. Gate operator and mechanical work is coordinated with the gate contractor.

Ubiquiti currently offers an Elevator Hub for controlled floor access — so a credential determines which floors a rider can select. Fireside Security designs and installs the access-control portion and coordinates it with your elevator contractor and the other trades involved. Elevator equipment work itself is performed by the appropriate elevator contractor, not by Fireside.
Retrofit
Upgrade your existing access control system
Most buildings are not starting from scratch. There is already a panel in a closet, cable in the walls, strikes in the frames, and a reader by the front door that somebody installed years ago. We survey the existing wiring, electric strikes, maglocks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, power supplies, and network to determine what can appropriately be reused and what has to be replaced. Some of it usually carries over — but reuse is never guaranteed until the survey is done and the openings are tested.

05 · Configure
UniFi Console and UniFi Access are configured — sites, doors, groups, schedules, credentials, and admin roles.

- Is Fireside Security a UniFi Access installer?
- Yes. Fireside Security is an independent security and low-voltage contractor that designs, installs, configures, and supports commercial UniFi Access systems. Ubiquiti manufactures the hardware and software; Fireside installs and integrates it in your building.
- Can you install the electric locks, not just the readers?
- Yes, within our licensed scope. We install and connect electric strikes, magnetic locks, electrified locking hardware, power supplies, request-to-exit devices, and door contacts. Work that belongs to another trade — door and frame modification, fire door assemblies, elevator equipment, gate operators — is coordinated with the appropriate contractor.
- Can you add cameras to the access control system?
- Yes. UniFi Access and UniFi Protect are part of the same UniFi ecosystem, so a door event can be reviewed alongside camera video. We design and install the cameras, the access system, the network, and the cabling as one project.
- Can employees use their phones instead of cards?
- Yes. UniFi Access supports mobile credentials issued through UniFi Identity to authorized users. Most buildings we install run a mix of mobile credentials, cards, and fobs so contractors and temporary staff are still covered.
- Does UniFi Access work with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet?
- Selected current UniFi Access reader models support Touch Pass, which allows a credential to be presented from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Support is limited to specific products, and we verify compatibility for the exact readers in your design before proposing them. Feature availability is controlled by Ubiquiti and may change.
- Can you retrofit UniFi Access onto our existing access control system?
- Often, yes. We survey the existing cabling, strikes, maglocks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, power, and network to determine what can appropriately be reused. Some existing infrastructure is reusable and some is not — the survey tells us, and we do not guarantee reuse in advance.
- Can you do more than one door, or multiple buildings?
- Yes. We install everything from one controlled entrance to multi-door facilities and multi-site portfolios administered together.
- Can you control a vehicle gate?
- Yes, where the application is appropriate. Ubiquiti currently offers a Gate Hub for controlled vehicle gate applications, and we coordinate the interface with your gate operator and the gate contractor.
- Can you control elevator floor access?
- Ubiquiti offers Elevator Hub solutions for controlled floor access. Elevator-related work must be coordinated with the appropriate elevator contractor and applicable requirements.
- Do you supply the equipment or do we buy it ourselves?
- Fireside Security provides the complete installed system, including equipment, installation, and configuration. If you have already purchased hardware, we can quote installation and configuration on request.
