POTS Line Replacement for Fire & Elevator
Cellular and IP replacement for retiring copper POTS lines used by fire alarm and elevator emergency phones.
Overview
The Monitoring Association (TMA) has issued formal guidance regarding AT&T's retirement of legacy copper (POTS) telephone service. Beginning June 30, 2026, affected wire centers will transition away from traditional copper telephone service, with additional waves through 2029.
Businesses relying on POTS lines for fire alarm systems, elevator phones, security panels, and access control need to migrate to modern communication paths now — before their monitoring goes dark or a service call becomes an emergency scramble.
Fireside Security replaces POTS with UL-Listed LTE-M cellular communicators, IP communicators, and dual-path solutions supervised at our central station 24/7.

Frequently asked
Is my fire alarm actually affected?
If your fire alarm signals off-site via a landline (POTS), yes. Any fire alarm on a copper line in an affected wire center must migrate to cellular or IP before that wire center's shutdown date.
How long does migration take?
A single-communicator swap is often a single visit. Multi-site portfolios are scheduled in phases so nothing is unmonitored.
